Wera Health Center III Upgrade to Health Center IV Commences in Amuria District
The construction work to upgrade Wera Health Center III to a Health Center IV in Wera Town Council, Amuria District, has officially begun. According to Moses Opolot Odong, the Amuria District Senior Assistant Engineer, this project, funded under the U-GIFT program, is expected to be completed in six months, with a target completion date set for May next year.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, which was presided over by the State Minister for Works, Hon. Musa Ecweru, Odong highlighted that two contractors, CAB Uganda Construction Limited and Trandit Uganda Limited, have been tasked with the construction. The work will be carried out in phases, ensuring the project meets the required standards as directed by the Ministry of Health.
Odong added that the goal is to construct a facility that meets high standards and is equipped to handle the healthcare needs of the community. This upgrade is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in Amuria and ensure better service delivery to the growing population.
Dr. Godfrey Opolot, the Acting District Health Officer for Amuria, and Angella Akurut, the Chief Administrative Officer for Amuria, both emphasized the significance of elevating Wera Health Center III to a Health Center IV. They noted that this upgrade would help alleviate the pressure on Amuria General Hospital, which is often overwhelmed by the number of patients seeking care.
The community members in Wera were visibly excited about the upgrade, expressing their happiness to Kyoga Veritas Radio. Many residents shared their appreciation for the government’s efforts in improving local healthcare and providing better services for the people.
Minister Musa Ecweru also committed to closely supervising the construction of the new facility. He assured the public that he would ensure all funds allocated for the project would be used properly and would not be diverted. Ecweru praised the government’s initiative, emphasizing its importance in improving healthcare services in the region.
