Unpaid Soroti teachers to religiously wait for respond after district meeting

Following today’s meeting with Soroti district local government, teacher who are stranded with uncleared arrears have been told to write to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) while others whose names have been submitted are expected to wait for a response from the service commission to clear them.
Last week, teachers who have not set eyes on their payments for 6 months stormed Soroti district headquarters demanding for answers after several failed attempts, but they were left in suspense and another meeting was set on Tuesday 9th of July 2024 with the CAO, DEO, service commission together with some technical team.
While at the district main hall today, the district CAO Andrew Ochen asked each teacher to re-echo how they ended up on withheld payment list so tha the outcry can be settle.
The teachers highlighted numerous issues ranging from contracts, transfers, corrected names among others.

In response, Moses Okwatum the district Secretary Service commission noted that the plight of the unpaid teachers needs to be addressed systematically and every personnel involved must play their own part to avoid backfire.
He also hinted that the meeting should have been held between the district head for a clear vivid picture of what is going on.

The CAO Ochen who was the chair disagreed n stated that the teachers need to return home with a clear answer.
Shortly after giving response and advising them to write to CAO, James Oede District Education Officer (DEO) appealed to teachers to keep calmand wait patiently for the country’s service commission to give feedback.
