Uganda Netball Elections Set for October as Normalisation Process Nears Completion

The Normalisation Committee, appointed to manage netball affairs in Uganda after the National Council of Sports (NCS) suspended the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), has confirmed that elections for the federation’s leadership will be held by the end of October.

This move aims to restore governance and stability within Uganda’s netball community.

A crucial part of this process is the adoption of a new draft constitution, which will be debated and voted on during the General Assembly on Saturday, September 21, in Lugogo.

The new constitution is seen as pivotal in shaping both the upcoming elections and the federation’s future governance.

Moses Mwase, Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, emphasized the importance of holding the elections under the new constitutional framework. “Our goal is to conduct the elections in line with the new constitution,” Mwase stated.

In an interview with KyogaVeritas 91.5, Mwase acknowledged that the reform process had taken longer than expected but reassured stakeholders that the changes would be worth the delay.

Mwase also addressed the possibility of rebranding the federation, including a potential name change, as part of broader efforts to give Ugandan netball a fresh start.

He urged stakeholders to remain calm, assuring them that these reforms were aimed at securing a stable future for the sport in the country.

Additionally, Mwase announced that several sponsors have pledged their continued support for netball, which is positive news ahead of the expected resumption of the netball league.
