The Teso sub-region is fully prepared to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, according to Hon. David Calvin Echodu, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda. Speaking to the media during a press briefing on Thursday, Echodu hailed the overwhelming turnout in Kapelebyong District as the President began his six-day campaign tour, describing it as a clear sign of growing support for the NRM and its leader ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“Teso is ready for the President. The turnout in Kapelebyong and the readiness of other districts clearly show the growing support for our candidate compared to previous elections,” Echodu said. He noted that residents across the sub-region are eager to engage with the President, highlighting the sense of unity and enthusiasm that has characterized the launch of the campaign.

While acknowledging the warm reception, Echodu emphasized that the region still faces pressing concerns, including cattle compensation, restocking, and completion of critical infrastructure projects such as the Kumi–Ngora–Serere–Kagwara road. However, he cautioned that these challenges should not overshadow the achievements that the NRM government has delivered over the years.

“There are still outstanding issues that need attention, but we should not overlook the bigger achievements the region has received,” Echodu said, pointing to improved roads, better access to markets, enhanced educational facilities, and the restoration of peace and security in previously unstable areas. He noted that these developments have significantly improved the livelihoods of Teso residents and created opportunities for economic growth.

Echodu also urged citizens to maintain a balanced perspective, recognizing both progress and gaps. He encouraged the media, local leaders, and communities to actively support the President during his campaign, describing the tour as both a political and developmental engagement.

President Museveni began his Teso tour in Kapelebyong District on Thursday. He is scheduled to continue his campaign today, Friday, 31st October 2025, in Amuria and Katakwi districts, before proceeding to Kalaki and Kaberamaido on Saturday, 1st November 2025. The President’s tour will give him the opportunity to engage directly with communities, listen to their concerns, and showcase government achievements across the sub-region.

The campaign tour is expected to strengthen NRM support in Teso and provide residents with a platform to discuss development priorities, with a focus on agriculture, infrastructure, and social services. As preparations continue, the leadership is optimistic that the region will turn out in large numbers to welcome the President and affirm their commitment to the NRM ahead of the 2026 polls.
