Surge in malaria cases fuelling miscarriages in Soroti

A surge in malaria cases has been cited as a major factor for the increasing number of women seeking medical attention at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital due to miscarriages.
Currently the medical facility has gazetted a gyno ward to cater for growing number of women rushed there with complications like miscarriages and other pregnancy related issue.
According to Dr. Irene Chebet a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, 80% of these cases received in the Ugandan setting is due to malaria.
She however, acknowledged others causes like getting pregnant immediately after a miscarriage, noting that the world health organization recommends that a mother has to wait for at least 6 months to allow the body to rest.
