RCC Warns Against Unlawful Charges at Government Health Facilities
BY JAMES ALOMU
The Resident City Commissioner of Soroti city, Peter Pex Paak, has issued a stern warning to nurses and doctors regarding the practice of charging patients money at government health facilities.
Following thorough investigations and numerous complaints received by his office, Commissioner Paak highlighted Princess Diana Memorial Health Centre IV and Soroti Referral Hospital as the primary culprits engaging in this unlawful behavior.
Commissioner Paak emphasized that the primary objective of government-run health facilities is to provide medical care to the less privileged members of society without any financial burden.
He cautioned healthcare providers against imposing any conditions or charges on patients seeking treatment, stating that such actions are unacceptable.

Furthermore, Commissioner Paak declared that any healthcare professional found guilty of charging patients would face immediate arrest and potential removal from the government payroll.
In cases where the facility faces shortages of essential medications, individuals will be directed to licensed pharmacies or drug stores to procure the necessary drugs.
This message underscores the importance of maintaining the integrity of public health services and ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all residents of Soroti city.
