Parliamentary candidate Dakabera praises Katine priest for reforming Catholic Church, donates Ugandan $20 million

Dakabera County Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Peter Edeku Edopu, has commended the parish priest of St. Kizito Katine Catholic Parish, Venerable Charles Osire, for the changes he has initiated within the church community.

Mr Edeku, who is also the chairman of the recently concluded parish fundraising drive, highlighted the great strides made since Ven Osire was appointed parish priest.

During the fundraising drive, Mr Edeku recalled the difficulties that once characterized Katine Parish, pointing to its former reputation as “nalufenya” where priests were reluctant to work due to difficult conditions.

“This community was formerly called Nalufenya. “In the past, priests didn’t like to come here,” Mr Edeku explained.

However, since Pastor Osire took over, the congregation has experienced a noticeable change.

“But since Fr Charles Osire came and transformed this place, everyone wants to come here.”

Mr Edeku also expressed his gratitude to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Soroti, the Rt. Dr. Joseph Esil Oriach praised him for his role in the transformation of the entire diocese.

He praised the collective efforts that have contributed to the development of the community, such as the determination of local Christians in developing the church infrastructure.

“I worked with Christians there. These Christians have a very strong determination. They worked.” “We haven’t slept for a week. This determination has made it much easier for me to work with Christians,” Edeku said.

The parliamentary candidate for Dacabela district stressed that although much has been achieved, there is still a lot to be done, especially in the construction of the parish church.

“The goal now is the roof, so once we have it we can finish it while praying there. “Because there are so many Christians in this church and the church is growing,” he said.
Edeku appealed to well-wishers to support the ongoing construction project to cater to the growing number of believers in the community.

As part of his ongoing support to the community, Edeku also personally donated about 20 million Ugandan shillings towards the completion of the church and donated mattresses to the newlyweds.

“We provided mattresses and bedsheets to every couple, whether they are Catholic, Pentecostal or members of the Church of Uganda. Today, 63 couples have been married,” he said.

He advocated for an increase in mass weddings in Dakabera as a way to promote community unity and family values.

With the continued cooperation of the community and the support of leaders like Peter Edek Edopu, St. Kizito Katin Catholic Parish is expected to achieve many more milestones in the near future.

“The Catholic Church is growing in this parish. We used to have very few churches, but now we have 11 zones and 39 churches,” Edeku added, highlighting the spread of the Church in the area.
