Parents Urged to Take Children for Guidance and Counseling

Parents in the Teso Sub-Region have been strongly urged to take their children for Guidance and Counseling to ensure their well-being and development. This call was made by Samuel Lukanga, the Manager of the Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI) in Soroti.

Speaking during an interview with Kyoga Veritas Radio, Lukanga emphasized the importance of parental involvement in the mental and emotional health of their children. He explained that seeking professional guidance and counseling is essential in helping children navigate the challenges they face, especially in today’s fast-changing world. According to Lukanga, parents are responsible for understanding what their children are thinking and doing, and this responsibility cannot be left to ignorance. He urged parents to take a proactive role in guiding their children, as many rely heavily on parental support to make informed decisions about their lives.

Lukanga noted that early intervention through counseling can help address a wide range of issues that children face, from academic pressures to social challenges, and even mental health concerns. By seeking professional help, parents can equip their children with the necessary skills to handle difficulties in a healthier, more productive way.

However, the importance of guidance and counseling extends beyond just the home environment. The Head Teacher of Soroti Municipal Senior Secondary School, Rogers Mboiza, added his perspective on the matter, stating that guidance and counseling are particularly effective when implemented in schools. Mboiza pointed out that counseling services within schools are instrumental in addressing academic and social challenges that students may face. School counselors help students deal with issues like stress, peer pressure, and learning difficulties, which can greatly affect their performance and overall well-being.

Both Lukanga and Mboiza agree that guidance and counseling are vital components in the holistic development of children. With the combined support of parents and schools, children in the Teso Sub-Region can grow into well-rounded individuals, prepared to face the challenges of the future.
