Parents tasked to prepare scholastic materials for learners

Parents in Kumi district have been urged to prepare scholastic materials for their children in advance as schools prepare to reopen. Sam Akol, the vice chairperson of the Local Council Five (LC5) in Kumi district, made this statement to address a common issue faced by many families in the area. Akol revealed that a number of parents often cause delays in their children’s return to school, citing challenges related to the lack of necessary scholastic materials, such as books, uniforms, and other essential supplies.

This year, Akol emphasizes the importance of early preparation to avoid the typical delays. He is encouraging parents to start gathering all the required materials well in advance, ensuring their children can report to school on time, without any setbacks. Delays in school attendance not only disrupt a child’s academic progress but also affect the smooth functioning of the entire school system. By preparing ahead of time, parents can help their children start the new term on the right foot.

The vice chairperson also noted that many families tend to wait until the last minute to buy these materials, which causes unnecessary stress and often leads to missed days of school. By taking action now, Akol believes that families will be better positioned to meet the needs of their children and help them make the most of their education.

According to the school calendar issued by the Ministry of Education and Sports, schools are set to officially reopen for the first term on 3rd February 2025. With this date fast approaching, parents are encouraged to act quickly and avoid last-minute rushes that could affect their children’s ability to attend school promptly. Ensuring that children are fully prepared for school will provide them with the best opportunity for success in the upcoming term.
