Parents caution against taking children to expensive schools
Parents Cautioned Against Enrolling Children in Expensive Schools
Alfred Enyidu, the Headteacher of Pioneer Primary School in Soroti, has issued a word of caution to parents, urging them not to rush into enrolling their children in expensive schools. Instead, he advises parents to carefully consider schools that are within their financial means. Enyidu’s advice comes at a time when many parents are preparing to secure Senior 1 admissions for their children, which has sparked a rush for enrollment in various institutions.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has set the dates for Senior 1 admissions on January 30th and 31st. Schools are expected to officially open on February 17th, marking the start of the academic year. With these deadlines quickly approaching, many parents are faced with the challenge of choosing the right school for their children. While many may feel compelled to send their children to prestigious or expensive schools, Enyidu emphasizes that affordability should be the priority.
Enyidu warns parents not to be blinded by the allure of high-cost schools that promise superior facilities or education. He encourages them to take a step back and assess their personal financial situation. In some cases, parents may feel pressured to send their children to elite schools that could end up costing them more than they can afford, potentially leading to long-term debt or the need to take out loans. Enyidu suggests that parents compare the cost of these institutions to their own earning capabilities, to avoid making hasty decisions that might have serious financial repercussions in the future.
Furthermore, Enyidu advocates for open communication between parents and students during the school selection process. He believes that involving children in the decision-making allows them to feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for their education. The collaboration between parents and children can also help in selecting a school that suits the child’s educational needs and aspirations, while also ensuring that it is financially manageable for the family.
By taking a more balanced and thoughtful approach, Enyidu hopes that parents will make decisions that provide both a solid education and financial stability for their families.
