Omagara Parish Residents Demand Urgent Action Over Deteriorating Roads

Residents of Omagara Parish in Kateta Sub-County, Serere District, have voiced their frustration over the severely deteriorated state of their community access roads.

The roads that are almost impassable are also riddled with deep gullies, overgrown bushes, and sections cut off entirely, hindering residents’ access to schools, health centers, and local markets.

The community point fingers at local leaders, accusing them of neglect, stating that their repeated appeals to district authorities for road repairs have gone unanswered, leading to a decline in their trust in leadership.

According to Lawrence Basebi, the parish’s Catholic catechist, the impact on farmers is great, noting that transportation of produce to markets has become increasingly difficult due to the poor road conditions.

As campaigns trails continue, they hope that candidates including Eng. Martin Onguruco, the NRM flag bearer for the Serere District LC5 seat to consider prioritizing road works if elected, emphasizing the community’s readiness to cooperate.

Eng. Martin Onguruco, who visited Omagara-Kateta on Sunday, described the roads as alarming and pledged to prioritize their improvement if elected.

He stressed that better road connectivity is essential for residents to fully benefit from government programs and services.

Onguruco also called on the government to increase funding for district road projects to facilitate the opening and maintenance of more roads in the area.

By press time, the Serere District Chairperson comment was futile as his known phone contacts were switched off.
