Olio Community Polytechnic to Receive UGX 3 Billion Government Grant Despite UGX 162 Million Supplier Debt

Olio Community Polytechnic in Serere District is set to receive a UGX 3 billion government grant to support its development, despite ongoing payments to suppliers.
Edison Ongerep, the Principal of Olio Polytechnic, revealed that the school currently owes UGX 162 million to food suppliers, a debt accumulated in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
The debt resulted from a court decree awarding UGX 167 million to suppliers over unpaid bills. The school has paid UGX 40 million so far, leaving UGX 162 million outstanding.
Ongerep highlighted the urgent need for funds to develop essential infrastructure, including workshops, classrooms, administration buildings, dormitories for boys and girls, fencing, a multipurpose hall, staff quarters, and training equipment for students.
He expressed concern that the school is financially constrained and remains upset over the unpaid supplier debt.
