Ngariam Health Centre III in Katakwi District Decries Lack of Infrastructure and Insecurity

NGARIAM: Ngariam Health Centre III in Katakwi district is facing serious challenges due to inadequate infrastructure and insecurity, according to the authorities and patients in the area.

The health center lacks essential facilities such as wards to accommodate patients and laboratory rooms, leading to poor conditions for both patients and medical staff.

Patients at the health center have raised concerns about their safety, as the facility is open without fences, leaving them vulnerable to threats. Additionally, power blackouts are a common occurrence, further complicating the situation for patients seeking medical care.

One patient, who preferred to remain anonymous, mentioned that loitering animals often eat patients’ clothes, which are hung out to dry around the facility.

This has prompted calls for the government to fence off health facilities to improve security and overall healthcare services in the area.

John Kosmas Odeke, the In-charge of Ngariam Health Centre III, highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades, as the current facilities are deteriorating.

Odeke emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive environment for patients and medical workers, citing the risk of collapse in the laboratory and limited space in other wards.

Abdul Okeng, the councilor for Palam Sub County, acknowledged the challenges faced by the health facility and assured that the district council is aware of the situation.

Geoffrey Omolo, the LCV Katakwi, reiterated the need for proper infrastructure in the district, emphasizing that lower health centers are also struggling with limited space for patients and medical personnel.

The authorities and stakeholders in Ngariam Health Centre III are calling for immediate action to address the infrastructure deficiencies and security issues, in order to provide quality healthcare services to the community.

The lack of proper infrastructure remains a major challenge in Katakwi district, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention and support to improve healthcare facilities in the area.
