LivingStone International University, Iteso Cultural Union Sign MoU to Boost Education in Teso

By Our Reporter

In a landmark step towards expanding access to higher education in Eastern Uganda, LivingStone International University (LIU) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU). The collaboration, formalized through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to promote academic advancement and skills development within the Teso sub-region.

Under the terms of the agreement, LivingStone International University will extend a 30% tuition discount to every new or first-time student enrolling at the institution. The initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on learners and encourage more young people to pursue university education.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, LIU officials emphasized that the partnership reflects the university’s commitment to empowering communities through affordable and quality education. They noted that the discount will apply across all programs offered, providing a rare opportunity for students from economically challenged backgrounds to attain higher learning.

The Iteso Cultural Union, led by its cultural leadership, welcomed the collaboration as a timely intervention to address education gaps in the region. They highlighted that Teso, like many rural areas in Uganda, continues to face challenges related to school dropout rates, limited tertiary education opportunities, and financial constraints on families.

“This partnership is more than a discount—it is an investment in the future of our people,” an ICU representative said. “By working with institutions like LivingStone International University, we are ensuring that education remains a cornerstone of cultural and economic development in Teso.”

The MoU is expected to strengthen community–university ties, create pathways for cultural exchange programs, and open doors for joint initiatives aimed at preserving Iteso heritage while fostering modern academic excellence.

LivingStone International University has positioned itself as a center for leadership training, entrepreneurship, and community transformation in Eastern Uganda. With the new arrangement, both LIU and the Iteso Cultural Union hope to see a significant increase in student enrollment from the region and beyond, ultimately contributing to a more educated and empowered generation.
