Katakwi Residents Urged to Prioritize Education Over Agricultural Work for Children
BY OLINGA EMMANUEL
KATAKWI: Parents in Katakwi district have been cautioned against keeping their children at home to assist with agricultural work instead of attending school.
This warning comes as a result of concerns raised about the negative impact of perpetual absenteeism on students’ academic performance.
Vincent Savior Okwi, the Resident District Commissioner of Katakwi district, expressed frustration over the fluctuating attendance rates in schools.
He emphasized that consistently missing school can have a detrimental effect on students’ ability to succeed in their final exams and ultimately pursue higher education.
Similarly, Dr. Kulume Mary Gorreti, the principal District Veterinary Officer of Napak district, highlighted the importance of allowing children to prioritize their education over household chores and farming duties – especially during the current rainy season.
She emphasized that parents should ensure their children attend school regularly to achieve positive academic results.
Sadoki Akutu, the chairperson of LC3 Katakwi town council, encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s education as a crucial step towards securing a better future for them. He stressed the importance of consistent school attendance from the beginning of the term to promote academic success.
