Katakwi registers 150 cases of Land disputes Monthly

Land disputes continue to be a major issue in Katakwi district, with the office of the Resident District Commissioner reporting over 150 cases being registered monthly.

According to statistics, an average of 5 to 7 cases are reported daily, indicating a concerning trend of conflict over land in the area.

Mr. Okwi Vincent Savior, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, highlighted the lack of harmony and trust among the people of Katakwi as contributing factors to the rise in land disputes.

He also pointed out rapid population growth and the increasing value of land sales as fueling this conflict.

To address this issue, Okwi urged the public to collaborate with the police and clan leaders in resolving land-related disputes.

He emphasized the importance of finding peaceful solutions to these conflicts to prevent further escalation and potential criminal activities such as murder and trespass.

As the rainy season has begun, there is a heightened concern that land disputes may intensify, leading to more serious consequences for the community.

Okwi stressed the need for cooperation and dialogue to ensure the peaceful resolution of land disputes in Katakwi district.
