Katakwi Men resort to selling food without Women’s Consent

KATAKWI: In a disturbing trend in Akoboi and Getom Sub Counties in Katakwi district, married men have been accused of selling food without the consent of their wives.

This act, which has been reported to the Marjos Foundation by concerned women, has raised concerns about economic violence within the communities.

The Executive Director of Marjos Foundation, Fredrick Adulai, has stated that his office has been inundated with reports of men selling seeds meant for cultivation for alcoholic consumption and gambling.

Adulai emphasized the importance of men consulting with their spouses before selling any food at home, in order to prevent cases of economic violence and ensure mutual agreement and understanding within the household.

In response to these reports, local authorities in the Sub County have been urged to educate the community on the negative impacts of alcohol consumption and to pass laws prohibiting early consumption of alcohol in trading centers.

Okello, a member of the community, stressed the need for measures to address this issue and protect the rights of women within the community.

The actions of these men have sparked outrage among the women in Akoboi and Getom Sub Counties, who are demanding accountability and respect within their households.

It is important for the community to come together to address these concerns and work towards creating a more equal and harmonious environment for all residents.
