High rate of school dropouts linked to the prevalent fishing culture

The high rate of school dropouts in Obutete Sub County, Pallisa district, has been linked to the prevalent fishing culture in the community.

Justine Onyait, the Obutete area district councilor, expressed concern over the alarming number of children who have dropped out of school in comparison to those still attending.

Despite efforts by local leaders to encourage these children to return to school, their pleas seem to fall on deaf ears

Onyait emphasized the need for the sub-county authorities to implement bylaws that would prohibit children from engaging in fishing activities, in a bid to address the issue of school dropout rates in the area.
