Health Workers Boycott Work at Princess Diana Due to Poor Leadership
SOROTI CITY: Health workers at Princess Diana Memorial Health Center four in Soroti City have boycotted work, citing poor leadership and violations of their profession by city authorities.
The boycott came after the city authority failed to address issues such as under-staffing, intimidation, harassment, and unnecessary arrest of health workers.
Dr. Anyonga Alfred, in charge of Princess Diana Memorial, expressed frustration over the lack of feedback from city authorities on crucial matters affecting the health facility.
He highlighted the challenge of having a non-qualified health environmental officer in a city that requires a professional doctor to understand health issues.

Cherop Justus Kiplangat, the president of the nurses and midwifery union, intervened to prevent the boycott from escalating and called for harmony with city administrators.
He stressed the importance of treating health workers well to avoid a disaster at the health facility due to the loss of expertise.
However, Peter Pex Paak, the resident city commissioner, condemned the boycott as illegal and urged the health workers to resume work.
He dismissed claims of unnecessary arrests by security organs and emphasized the importance of duty, uniform, and punctuality for nurses.
The situation remains tense as health workers await further communication with city authorities on Monday, the 23rd of the month.
The outcome of these discussions will determine the future of healthcare services at Princess Diana Memorial Health Center in Soroti City.
