Ruhinda, Mitooma District — The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has been confirmed unopposed for the Ruhinda County North parliamentary seat for the 2026–2031 term, cementing his strong political influence and continued popularity in the constituency.
The development follows the closure of the nomination period, during which no other candidate submitted papers to contest against the Deputy Speaker. This effectively guarantees Tayebwa’s return to the 12th Parliament, representing Ruhinda County North under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Rt. Hon. Tayebwa, who has served with distinction both as Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament, is widely recognized for his pragmatic leadership, dedication to service delivery, and commitment to grassroots development. His unopposed victory reflects the confidence and trust the people of Ruhinda North have in his leadership.
Speaking after his confirmation, Tayebwa expressed deep gratitude to his constituents, the NRM leadership, and the Electoral Commission for their continued support and confidence in his vision for the area.
“I am humbled by the trust and unity shown by the people of Ruhinda North. This is not just a victory for me, but a call to serve even better. My focus remains on improving livelihoods through better education, health services, and economic empowerment,” Tayebwa said.
He reiterated his commitment to championing development initiatives across Mitooma District, including youth empowerment, infrastructure improvement, and support for farmers and small business owners.
Local leaders and residents have praised Tayebwa’s unopposed victory, describing it as a reflection of his integrity, accessibility, and tangible impact on community projects.
“Rt. Hon. Tayebwa has transformed our constituency with real projects that touch the lives of ordinary people. His leadership has brought us together and inspired development at every level,” said one local council leader in Mitooma.
As one of the country’s most influential political figures, Tayebwa’s unchallenged return to Parliament further strengthens his position within the NRM and Uganda’s national leadership landscape.
Observers say his re-election without opposition highlights the unity within his constituency and underscores his effectiveness both as a national leader and a representative of the people.
With his parliamentary seat secured, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa is expected to continue playing a key role in steering legislative business, fostering bipartisan cooperation, and advancing policies aimed at accelerating Uganda’s development and stability.
