After narrowly missing out on victory in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa, Uganda will be looking for their first win. Congo will receive the prize in Namboole.

Quick strikes from Dennis Omedi and Rogers Mato put the Cranes up 2-1 against Bafana Bafana on Friday before Talenthe Mbatha scored an equaliser to seal the win.

Congo will be looking for two wins in two matches this season after beating South Sudan 1-0 at home.

“A point away in South Africa means nothing if we don’t beat Congo at home,” said Cranes coach Paul Put, a former Red Devils boss.

“We will do everything to win at home and the players know that,” he added.

TEAM NEWS

Mohammed Shaban missed the draw with South Africa with an injury sustained in training and remains a doubt for the match.

Khalid Rwariwa and Kenneth Semakula, who missed Friday’s game due to visa issues, are all available.

It is unclear whether Bobosi Byaruhanga is taking part in the training camp after failing to turn up in Pretoria without receiving official communication from the FA.

Congolese player Morgan Poati suffered an injury threat 10 minutes into the second half against South Sudan and the 27-year-old is a doubt for the team’s trip to Kampala.

If Poati is deemed ineligible, Brunalergen Junior Etu is the favourite to start for his second international appearance.

Key stats:

Uganda have won one of their last five matches, a 1-0 win over Botswana.
