Community Pillar Turns 71: Teso College Aloet Thrives on Unity, Pride, and Purpose
Soroti, Uganda – At 71 years strong, Teso College Aloet is not just celebrating its age—it’s celebrating the power of unity and shared responsibility that has kept the institution standing as a symbol of excellence in Eastern Uganda.
On Saturday, the college’s serene grounds in Aloet buzzed with energy as hundreds of students, teachers, parents, alumni, and educational stakeholders gathered to mark the milestone anniversary. From civil servants to university lecturers and business professionals, the event attracted a diverse cross-section of society—all with one message: Teso College Aloet is a proud community project.
The Head Teacher, Mr. Julius Opaaso, in his keynote address, credited the school’s success to what he termed an “unbroken collaboration” between stakeholders.
“This is not a one-man journey. It’s a legacy built by parents who believe in the school, teachers who give their best, and students who strive for greatness. The stakeholders are the heartbeat of Teso College,” he noted passionately.
For many alumni who returned to their roots, the event was a deeply emotional experience. From boardroom executives to local leaders, the collective testimony was clear: Teso College was more than a school—it was a character-building ground.
“This is where we learned that values matter—respect, discipline, and commitment,” said Dr. Paul Edeu, a senior academic and alumnus. “Those values still guide us in the professional world today.”
The school, founded in 1954, has weathered decades of change, political unrest, and shifting education policies. Through it all, it has remained a firm anchor of stability for young men in the Teso sub-region. The anniversary provided an opportunity for both reflection and forward-thinking.
The Board of Governors used the platform to announce a renewed development strategy, including technology integration, expansion of science laboratories, and scholarships for underprivileged learners. Stakeholders were encouraged to invest not only financially but also through mentorship and moral support.
Parents in attendance expressed satisfaction with the institution’s direction.
“When you drop a child here, you know they’ll come out with more than grades. They come out with identity and vision,” one parent remarked.
Students, too, took pride in being part of the legacy. “We walk in the footsteps of giants,” said an S.5 student and prefect. “It’s an honor to wear this uniform.”
As the celebrations concluded with traditional performances and alumni networking, one message echoed across generations: Teso College Aloet is not just 71 years old—it’s 71 years strong, thanks to the people who believe in its mission.
And in the words of Head Teacher Mr. Opaaso:
“As long as we stay united, our light will never fade.”
