Cattle Theft Epidemic Rocks Katakwi District: 150 Head Stolen in a Year due to Collaboration

A disturbing trend of cattle theft has been reported in Katakwi district, with over 150 head stolen in the past 12 months, from May 2023 to May 2024.

According to statistics from the district security team, this is a significant increase compared to previous years, when no cattle thefts were recorded.

The Katakwi District RDC, Rtd. Maj. Godfrey Katamba, revealed that the thefts are orchestrated by collaborators, who have been working together to steal cattle.

The district has witnessed several incidents of cattle theft, including one in May 2023 in Guyaguya and Olilim, where two collaborators were arrested while transporting four stolen cattle in a vehicle.

The RDC warned that the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous, with some incidents involving the use of bows and arrows, such as the incident at Ongongoja.
