Boda Boda Riders Endorse FDC’s Joan Alobo Ahead of 2026 Elections

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) stalwart and incumbent Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Joan Achom Alobo, has received a major boost in her 2026 re-election bid after hundreds of Boda Boda riders pledged their unwavering support for her candidacy.

The endorsement came over the weekend when riders from across Soroti City gathered at Alobo’s residence in Kampswahili Ward, Soroti City East Division. The enthusiastic turnout reflected the growing confidence in her leadership, particularly among the transport sector and the broader business community.

Last week, the FDC Secretariat officially declared Alobo as the party’s flag bearer for the Soroti City Woman MP seat, a pronouncement that sparked excitement and renewed energy across the city. Many riders described her as a fearless defender of the people and a leader who has consistently stood firm on issues affecting the common citizen.

Michael Omedo, a rider from Soroti Public Garden stage, praised Alobo for her track record of accountability and resilience. “Alobo is the voice of the voiceless,” he said. “We have no price for her but to vote her back to Parliament.” His words echoed the mood of the gathering, where riders vowed to rally their peers and mobilize grassroots support to secure her victory in 2026.

The endorsement comes just days after the Soroti Chief Magistrate’s Court dismissed a case in which Alobo had been accused of several charges, including alleged arson. The dismissal has been widely interpreted as a vindication of her integrity and has further strengthened her political standing, portraying her as a leader who cannot be easily shaken by political witch-hunts.

Known as the “Iron Lady” of the FDC, Alobo has carved out a reputation for boldness, women empowerment, and her powerful connection with the youth. Her ability to mobilize ordinary citizens, especially those in the informal sector, has made her one of the most formidable politicians in the Teso Sub-region.

Addressing the riders, Alobo pledged her unwavering commitment to service delivery and advocacy for their welfare. She promised to push for reduced taxes on the transport sector and to continue supporting Boda Boda operators, whom she described as the backbone of Soroti’s economy. “You are my brothers, my partners, and my people,” she told the cheering crowd. “Together, we shall continue to build a Soroti where every hardworking rider and trader can thrive.”

With growing public confidence, strong grassroots mobilization, and her proven record in Parliament, Alobo now heads into the 2026 elections with significant momentum. Her deep attachment to the people and her fearless approach to leadership give her an edge that few competitors can match.
