Bishop Eciru Encourages Discipline and Hard Work for Upcoming Examinations

The Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, His Lordship Rt Rev Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach, cautioned candidates against a lack of discipline as they prepare for their upcoming examinations.

The Bishop issued this warning while bestowing blessings upon the candidates of St. Elizabeth Girls Kidetok on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

The examinations for this year are scheduled to commence on Monday, October 14, starting with the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams, while a briefing for the candidates is slated for Friday, October 11. The Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) are set for November 8 and 9, followed by the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) from November 11 to December 6.

In his sermon, Bishop Eciru praised the students for their perseverance in overcoming obstacles and making sacrifices to reach this pivotal juncture in their education. He emphasized that their dreams can only be realized through dedication and hard work, as miracles in life do not come without effort.

The Bishop noted that his blessings alone will not suffice unless the students effectively utilize the knowledge imparted by their teachers. He also warned against acts of indiscipline disguised as celebratory events marking the culmination of their educational milestones.

Encouraging the candidates to prioritize excelling in their examinations, he urged them to seek divine guidance before and after the tests. Rev. Sr. Imalingat Florence, the Headteacher of St. Elizabeth Girls Kidetok, expressed confidence that, despite the candidates’ apprehensions about the new curriculum, they are adequately prepared to excel.

However, she cautioned against engaging in any form of examination misconduct, noting that the new curriculum emphasizes the skills acquired and the critical thinking abilities of individual candidates.

A total of 369,373 candidates are registered to undertake the UCE exams nationwide, with an additional 10,143 students sitting for transitional examinations under the previous curriculum.

Additionally, 798,742 pupils are gearing up for the Primary Leaving Examinations, while 139,788 candidates are set to participate in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education in 2024.
