Banyarwanda in Teso Endorse President Museveni for 2026 Amid Challenges of Equal Rights

The Banyarwanda community residing in the Teso sub-region has officially endorsed President Yoweri Museveni as their preferred candidate for the 2026 presidential race.
Under the umbrella of the Council for Abavandimwe in Teso, the community unanimously agreed to support the incumbent leader, who is seeking another term under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
While in Soroti over the weekend, Frank Gashumba, the co-founder and chairman of the Council for Abavandimwe, expressed that the community has experienced peace and stability during Museveni’s tenure, which they see as vital for safeguarding their achievements.
Gashumba emphasized that the council is actively working to promote President Museveni’s vision and ensure stability, even as they advocate for the community’s voices, which have faced resistance, particularly in areas like Kapelebyong.

Supporting the community’s stance, Tom Olinga Otukol, the Resident District Commissioner of Kapelebyong, highlighted that the council has eased his work by encouraging calm among residents as the country approaches elections. He urged residents to maintain peace and unity.

Regarding concerns over an increase in the Balalo community in the district, Otukol explained that, like other communities, Balalo are living peacefully.
He acknowledged that a few individuals, who leave their animals to roam and damage gardens, have been arrested for misconduct.
Otukol reassured residents that law enforcement is managing such issues to maintain peace in the district.
