AFCON 2025 Q: Namboole Electrified As United Fans Cheer Onana In Cameroon, Zimbabwe Draw
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been the center of attention since his national team, Cameroon, arrived in Uganda on Sunday for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe.
Thousands of Manchester United fans in Uganda flocked to the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, to catch a glimpse of their team’s star shot-stopper in action.
Although some fans faced challenges with online ticketing and were unable to enter the stadium, those who made it in were vocal throughout the goalless draw, cheering Onana on with every pass and save.
The Cameroon team, inspired by Onana’s presence, played with the same energy as they would in Yaoundé or Douala.
After the match, Onana graciously greeted fans, giving away his gloves, boots, and shinguards. With Cameroon now joint leaders of Group J alongside Kenya, Onana will shift his focus to Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League match against Southampton on Saturday.
