Adoa disappointed over exorbitant charges imposed on a boy child

The State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hellen Adoa, has expressed disappointment with the greater Teso region following reports of exorbitant charges imposed on a boy’s family during the payment of dowry.

According to Adoa, the high charges being enforced in the region are not only unjust but also oppressive to families, especially those living in rural areas. She emphasized that the practice of demanding exorbitant dowry amounts goes against the principles of fairness and equality.

Adoa urged the communities in the greater Teso region to reconsider their approach to dowry payments and ensure that they are conducted in a manner that is both reasonable and respectful to all parties involved. She also called on local leaders to intervene and regulate the process to prevent exploitation and financial burden on families.

The Minister emphasized the importance of promoting gender equality and ensuring that traditional practices, such as dowry payments, do not perpetuate gender-based discrimination or economic inequality within communities.

Adoa’s comments come in the wake of growing concern over the escalating costs of dowry payments in the greater Teso region, with many families struggling to meet the demands placed upon them.

She attributed this to the biting levels of poverty in the region and asked residents to embrace on government poverty eradication programs such as PDM among others.
