4 cases awarded millions of Shillings in ongoing tribunal processio
6 out of 19 cases have been concluded in the ongoing Uganda Human Rights tribunal procession, presided over by its chairperson Mariam Wangadia and the panel members who include Retired Steven Basaliza, Crispin Kaheru and Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukuruku.
During a press briefing this morning at the Uganda Human Rights commissions offices located at Senior quatres in Soroti, Ida Nakiganda the Director Complaints, Investigations and Legal Services highlighted that out of the 6 cases that were concluded in the session that kicked off yesterday, 4 have been awarded for the damages and torture, while the other two have been dismissed.
According to Nakiganda, the first case against Attorney General had Richard Okello a complainant who was awarded Shs.12 million as general damages for violation of his rights to protection from torture and cruel inhuman as well as degrading treatment.
She added that the second case had Richard Mutama, Moses Sakwa and William Sakwa who were awarded Shs.8 million each.
She however, revealed that it now upon those awarded to make follow up for their payments.
